Luke 5:1-16

Questions:
People came to hear the teachings of Jesus for various reasons. What are some of those reasons? Why do you you come to youth group
Is there anything in your life that hinders your relationship with God?
Has there been a time in your life where you have a made a decision to be obedient to God but it defies the logic of man (Makes no worldly sense)
If people watched your life, would they say you live for Christ or yourself? If you live for yourself, do any conviction?

1. (V1) The crowd was pressing into Jesus

a) Popularity of Jesus was growing
Hungry to hear His teaching
The crowd also heard of His compassion as Jesus healed many people
Gennesaret / This was another name for the Sea of Galilee, as it is more familiarly known. It was also sometimes called the Sea of Tiberias.

a) These were skilled fisherman and this was their profession
Maybe some of you have gone boating and you understand the clean up that is required when completed

3. (V4) Throw your nets into the deep water for a catch

a) Why did Jesus want to preform this miracle?
To bless Peter for allowing him the use of the boat?
To prove the authority of Christ by preforming this miracle?
Maybe to test their heart, to see if they would trust Him and obey?
All of the above

4. (V5) Peter responds by saying master, we toiled all night and didn’t catch anything

4.1 Peter goes against His own understanding and obeys Jesus

a) Peter could of made many excuses as to why this was a bad idea
Sometimes God will move us to do something that makes no worldly sense
Proverbs 3:5–6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
If Peter would used his common sense or if he would have leaned on his own understanding he would of missed the miracle
In my life God has put on my heart to do things that make no worldly sense.
My parents bought us a beach house in Huntington Beach. We lived in walking distance from some of the best waves in the world.

5. (8-9) The authority of Christ is revealed through the miracle and they believe

Peter recognizes he is unworthy of Christ (Depart from me)

6. (V11) They left everything and followed Jesus
